02 / GUIDANCE OR PROGRESS

The biggest difference: guidance or visible progress

Fabulous gives you a path to follow

Fabulous is built around helping you work out what comes next.

Its Journeys organize habit building around a theme, such as improving your mornings, exercising regularly, or developing a meditation practice. You receive lessons and suggested actions over several weeks, with habits introduced gradually rather than all at once.10

That can be useful when your starting point is a broad intention:

“I want more structure in my day.”

You may not yet know which behaviors belong in that structure, how to sequence them, or what to start with. A guided program gives you a starting point instead of another empty list.

Fabulous also supports custom habits. The distinction is not that Fabulous makes every decision for you. It is that guidance is a much larger part of the product.4

Storey gives the work a shape

Storey starts with the habit you choose and the weekly goal you set.

Suppose you decide to read four days a week. That habit gets its own tower. Your check-ins become lit windows, and a week in which you meet your target adds another storey.2

Over time, the building represents something specific: the weeks you met your reading goal.

Not the number of articles you read about becoming a reader. Not the ambition you had when you installed the app. The reading you actually recorded.

That is the appeal of a visual habit tracker. A small action can be easy to dismiss on its own. Seeing those actions accumulate gives you something to look back at.

Our guide to identity-based habits explores the same idea from another angle: repeated actions can become evidence for the person you are trying to become.

03 / MORNING ROUTINES

Which app is better for morning routines?

Fabulous is the stronger fit when you want guidance through the routine itself.

It groups habits into sequences and offers an immersive mode that walks you through them with visuals and audio. You can also use the ordinary habit checklist; the immersive experience is optional.1112

That distinction matters. Fabulous is not just a place to record that you finished your morning. It can be part of how you move through it.

Storey is the stronger fit when you want to track the habits inside a routine you have chosen.

You might have a reading habit, a stretching habit, and a habit of planning the day. Storey gives each one its own record rather than guiding you through a sequence of exercises.3

One approach provides more direction during the routine. The other gives you a clearer visual record of the individual habits you are maintaining.

For help planning the routine first, our free Morning Routine Generator builds an editable schedule around your wake-up time, available time, and priorities.

For a single habit, the Habit Stack Builder helps you connect a new action to something you already do. Use either tool to make a plan, then add the habits you want to track in Storey.

04 / WEEKLY GOALS

Weekly goals: consistency without requiring every day

A useful comparison should distinguish between a daily routine and a habit you want to repeat several times a week.

They are not always the same thing.

In Storey, you set a weekly target for each habit. A goal of practicing guitar four days a week is met by four completed days. You do not need seven check-ins to earn that week's floor.2

A missed Tuesday can still belong to a successful week.

Fabulous also allows scheduling flexibility. Its support documentation explains how to set routine alarms for selected days, such as weekdays or weekends. It would be inaccurate to describe the app as requiring every routine every day.5

The difference is what each product emphasizes: Storey makes reaching the habit's weekly target part of how its building grows. Fabulous organizes habits into scheduled routines.

Our guide to staying consistent with habits goes deeper into choosing a frequency you can maintain rather than treating an uninterrupted daily streak as the only definition of success.

05 / MISSING A DAY

What happens when you miss a day?

This is worth checking before choosing any habit tracker.

Not because you intend to miss days. Because the app still needs to make sense when you do.

Storey: a gap does not remove the building

A missed habit leaves that day's window unlit. A week below your target does not earn another floor. Previously earned floors remain.13

Your streak and your accumulated progress are different things.

For example, a tower representing ten completed weekly goals does not lose those ten floors because the next week goes badly. You can return and work toward the next one.

That separation is central to Storey's approach: an interruption should not make the earlier work disappear from view.

Fabulous: streak protection is available

Fabulous's documented streak system recognizes completed rituals. Completing at least one ritual maintains its core daily streak, while completing more can earn silver or gold trophies.6

It also includes Streak Freeze, which protects the streak through a missed day when a freeze is active.6

So the comparison is not “Storey is forgiving and Fabulous always resets you.” Both make room for interruptions, but the progress they display is different.

Storey's particular distinction is that its buildings remain even when your current run of consistency changes.

For the practical side of returning, read how to start again after breaking a habit streak.

06 / SELF-CARE & COACHING

A focused tracker or a broader self-care app?

Fabulous offers more built-in self-care content.

Its listed features include meditation, breathing exercises, journaling, affirmations, and coaching. Its Circles provide a place to share progress and support other members.79

Those are meaningful differences, not extras to dismiss simply because Storey does not include them.

You may want an app that supplies the meditation rather than only reminding you to meditate. You may want a reflection prompt rather than a checkbox labeled “Journal.”

For those needs, Fabulous is the more complete option.

Storey focuses on recording whether you kept the habit and making that history visible. It is not a replacement for a guided meditation library or a journaling experience.3

That narrower scope can be an advantage when you already have the activities, tools, or routines you like. Your habit tracker does not need to replace them.

Use the app that supports the part you are missing. More features are useful only when they solve that problem.

A note on Fabulous coaching

Fabulous's in-app coaching includes short motivational talks and themed series. Live one-to-one Personal Coaching is a separate subscription offering, not something to assume is included with every Premium plan.1415

That distinction matters when comparing what you would actually receive for the price.

07 / MOTIVATION

Which approach is more motivating over time?

There is no universal winner here.

Fabulous gives you material to work through: lessons, Journeys, guided activities, and challenges. That may suit you when continued instruction helps you stay engaged.110

Storey is designed around seeing more of your own history take shape. Its visual rewards come from recorded habits: lit windows, taller buildings, and additional building styles as you progress.16

Our view is that these appeal to different preferences.

Some people will find another guided step more useful than another floor. Others will prefer looking at the skyline they have built to working through more coaching content.

A tower is not proof that a skill is mastered or a goal is finished. It is a record of meeting the habit targets you set. The reading, practicing, walking, and writing still happen outside the app.

That is the relationship Storey is designed to have with your life: the city represents the effort. It does not replace it.

08 / PRICING

Storey vs Fabulous pricing

Storey Pro

As checked on September 14, 2026, Storey's U.S. App Store description lists Pro at $5.99 per month with a seven-day free trial, or $59.99 per year. Prices can vary by region.16

Pro includes unlimited habits, expanded building customization, and the ability to edit older completion dates. Check the purchase screen for the offer, trial eligibility, and renewal terms available to your account.16

Fabulous Premium

Fabulous's help center confirms that it has an ongoing free version with a selection of Journeys, Challenges, and Guided Activities. Premium is optional and unlocks the full content library, unlimited habit and routine creation, and other features.1718

Fabulous offers subscription plans, and its App Store listing directs users to the app for the exact local price. Compare the total renewal price and billing period shown in your offer rather than assuming a price quoted elsewhere applies to everyone.197

The useful value comparison is what you will use regularly: more tracking and city customization, or more guided content and routine support.

09 / CHOOSE STOREY

Choose Storey if…

  • You already know the habits you want to maintain and prefer a focused iPhone tracker to a coaching program.
  • Weekly targets and an individual visual history for each habit matter more to you than guided activities.
  • You like the idea of building a city that remains intact through missed days and difficult weeks.

Storey is worth considering as a Fabulous alternative when you are looking for a different way to track consistency, rather than a replacement for every part of Fabulous's self-care offering.23

10 / CHOOSE FABULOUS

Choose Fabulous if…

  • You want more help choosing, sequencing, and gradually developing your routines.
  • Coaching, journaling, meditation, or community support are part of what you want from the app.
  • You prefer working through guided programs, or need an app available on Android.

Fabulous is the stronger fit when the guidance is part of the reason you are opening the app, not something you would rather skip.178

11 / THE VERDICT

Storey vs Fabulous: which should you choose?

Choose Fabulous when you want help shaping the routine. Choose Storey when you want to see the habits you keep become something lasting.

That is our recommendation based on the different experiences they offer, not a claim that one produces better results for everyone.

A useful way to decide is to think about the last time you stopped using a habit app.

Were you unsure what to do next? A guided approach may be more useful.

Did you know what to do, but the record of doing it felt forgettable? A visual approach may be worth trying.

Neither choice requires tracking your entire life. Start with the behaviors that matter most. Our guide to how many habits to track at once can help you keep that list manageable.

12 / FAQS

Frequently asked questions

What is the main difference between Storey and Fabulous?

Storey turns individual habit histories into buildings that grow when weekly goals are met. Fabulous combines habit tracking with guided routines, coaching, and self-care content. Storey emphasizes visible progress; Fabulous offers more instruction and activities around the routine.131

Is Storey a good Fabulous alternative?

Storey is a good option to consider when you want visual motivation, weekly habit targets, and a more focused tracking experience. It is not a direct replacement for Fabulous's coaching, meditation, journaling, or community features.37

Can you create your own habits in Fabulous?

Yes. Fabulous supports custom habits, adjustable habit durations, and changes to the order of habits within a routine. Its help center says custom habit creation unlocks progressively, and free users have limits on how many habits they can add.4

Yes. Fabulous offers an ongoing free version with selected Journeys, Challenges, and Guided Activities. Premium unlocks additional content and features. The free version is distinct from a time-limited Premium trial.1718

Does Storey delete your progress when you miss a habit?

No. Missing a day or weekly target does not remove previously earned floors. You may miss an opportunity to add to a building, but the existing structure remains.13

Does Fabulous have protection for missed days?

Yes. Fabulous documents a Streak Freeze feature that can preserve your streak when you miss a day and a freeze is active.6

Is Storey available on Android?

Not yet. Storey currently supports iPhone running iOS 17 or later. Fabulous is available on both iPhone and Android.278
